Why growth requires us to trust the process before we can see the outcome

There are very few guarantees in life and entrepreneurship.

One of them is change.

Whether we welcome it or resist it, change is inevitable. Growth is impossible without it. Yet despite knowing this, most of us still find uncertainty uncomfortable. We want the roadmap. We want the answers. We want proof that the leap we're about to take will be worth it.

But life rarely works that way.

Sometimes, before the next chapter can begin, we have to close a door without knowing exactly which one will open next.

Four years ago, I did exactly that.

After more than 30 years of building Wallis for Wellness, I made the difficult decision to sell the clinical practice I had spent decades growing. But the truth is, Wallis for Wellness never ended. It simply began to evolve.

The foundation remained the same: empowering people through education, prevention, and integrative health. The values remained the same: integrity, compassion, collaboration, and putting people first. The passion certainly remained the same.

What changed was the vehicle through which that mission would continue.

What had once been expressed primarily through a brick-and-mortar clinic began taking shape in new ways, through the Preventative Health Awareness Movement (PHAM), speaking engagements, corporate wellness initiatives, health technology education, community partnerships, mentorship, and now the Become the CEO of Your Health Hub.

The mission never changed. The platform did.

It wasn't the end of a chapter as much as it was the expansion of one.

Yet despite knowing that, walking away from something that had been such a significant part of my identity for three decades wasn't easy.

The uncertainty was real.

There were moments of excitement and moments of doubt. There were days when I questioned whether I was making the right decision. But underneath all of that was something stronger: alignment.

I knew my purpose hadn't changed.

I simply knew my impact was meant to evolve.

That's a very different thing.

Looking back now, it has been remarkable to witness what can happen when you trust that inner knowing.

Over the past four years, I've had the privilege of helping grow the Preventative Health Awareness Movement into something far beyond what I could have imagined when it first began. I've watched incredible people come into my life who share the vision of empowering Canadians to become the CEO of their health. I've had opportunities to collaborate with healthcare professionals, organizations, researchers, community leaders, and innovators who believe prevention deserves a much bigger place in our healthcare conversations.

I've also had the privilege of helping introduce Canadians to emerging health technologies such as REMS, while playing a role that I believe is often overlooked but critically important: education.

Because innovation alone doesn't create impact.

People need to understand what a technology is, how it works, where it fits, and how it can help them make more informed decisions about their health. Healthcare professionals need opportunities to learn, evaluate, question, and understand how new innovations may complement existing approaches to care.

What has fascinated me most throughout this journey is how often innovation is met with resistance, not because it lacks value, but because it challenges what we've always known.

In healthcare, as in business, growth requires curiosity.

When we become too attached to the way things have always been done, we risk missing opportunities to improve outcomes, create new possibilities, and serve people better. That doesn't mean abandoning evidence or proven approaches. It means remaining open enough to ask better questions and explore new solutions.

The same principle applies to entrepreneurship.

The entrepreneurs who continue to grow aren't necessarily the ones with all the answers. They're the ones willing to learn, adapt, pivot, and evolve.

They're willing to be beginners again.

They're willing to step into rooms where they're not the smartest person.

They're willing to be uncomfortable long enough to grow.

At the same time, one thing hasn't changed for me.

I still treat patients.

As a massage therapist, that's my heart.

It keeps me grounded. It keeps me connected to real people and real challenges. It reminds me every day why prevention matters and why empowering people with knowledge, tools, and confidence is so important.

It keeps me current.

It keeps me listening.

And it keeps me deeply connected to the mission.

Yet today, new opportunities are arriving that I couldn't have predicted four years ago.

New collaborations, partnerships and projects.

A soon-to-be-published book.

The continued growth of PHAM.

The launch of the Become the CEO of Your Health Hub.

Conversations and initiatives that have the potential to influence how we think about prevention, education, and the future legacy of healthcare in this country.

None of it was visible when I sold my practice.

That's the lesson.

You don't need to see the entire staircase to take the first step.

You simply need the courage to trust yourself enough to move forward.

Because growth isn't about certainty.

It's about belief. Belief in your purpose and in your values.

Belief that when you lead with integrity, honesty, and a genuine desire to serve, opportunities will emerge.

Not always in the way you expected.

But often in ways greater than you imagined.

As I reflect on this first full day of summer, it feels symbolic.

A new season, a reminder that growth is cyclical.

Some seasons are for building, some are for learning and some are for letting go.

And some are for stepping fully into what you've been preparing for all along.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's this:

The most meaningful opportunities in my life have rarely come from certainty.

They've come from courage.

From saying yes before I had all the answers.

From staying curious, learning from mistakes and from setting ego aside and embracing a Better Together mindset.

Because none of us accomplish anything meaningful alone.

We rise through relationships, through collaboration, through community and shared vision.

And when purpose, passion, integrity, and belief align, extraordinary things become possible.

My belief is that I'm here to help change the legacy of healthcare in this country.

I know that's a bold statement.

Some might even ask, "Who am I to think that?"

But I've learned a more powerful question is this:

Who am I not to?

If we each have unique gifts, experiences, lessons, and opportunities to contribute, then perhaps our responsibility is not to shrink our vision, but to step fully into it.

To have the courage to pursue it.

To trust it.

And to invite others along for the journey.

What I didn't fully appreciate four years ago was that change doesn't just create uncertainty.

When embraced, it can also create resolve.

The challenges, lessons, successes, and even the setbacks of the past four years have strengthened my conviction that prevention, education, innovation, and collaboration must play a larger role in the future of healthcare.

As entrepreneurs and as people, we all face moments when our alignment is challenged. Moments when circumstances force us to pause, reflect, and ask ourselves whether the path we're on is still aligned with our purpose, our values, and the impact we want to make.

The beautiful thing is that we always have a choice.

We can resist change, cling to what's familiar, and stay where it's comfortable.

Or we can lean in.

We can get uncomfortable.

And sometimes, that discomfort comes from recognizing that not everyone is meant to come with us on the journey.

Not everyone will share our vision.

Not everyone will see the opportunity we see.

Not everyone will be willing, or ready to take the next step alongside us.

One of the hardest lessons in both life and entrepreneurship is realizing that we cannot force alignment where it doesn't exist.

We cannot make someone else believe in the vision.

We cannot make someone else embrace change.

We cannot make someone else choose growth.

What we can do is communicate openly, lead with integrity, extend the invitation, and then respect their choice.

And when necessary, we must be willing to let go—not of the vision, but of the expectation that everyone will see it the way we do.

Because sometimes moving forward requires releasing what is no longer aligned so that we can create space for what is.

That isn't failure.

It's clarity.

And clarity is often the catalyst for the next level of growth.

We can embrace uncertainty and trust ourselves enough to find a new path forward, one that remains aligned with our passion, our purpose, and our integrity.

For me, this season has done exactly that.

It has challenged me to think bigger.

To expand the vision and elevate the impact.

And to step more boldly into the opportunities that are emerging.

As we continue to grow the Preventative Health Awareness Movement and prepare for the launch of the Become the CEO of Your Health Hub, I'm excited to share that new programs, new collaborations, and new opportunities are on the horizon.

This next chapter will bring together education, community, innovation, and practical tools that empower people to take ownership of their health. It will also create new opportunities for Canadians to access emerging technologies such as REMS and other innovative health solutions under the broader umbrella of the Become the CEO of Your Health initiative.

Most importantly, it will continue to be built on the same philosophy that has guided me throughout my entire career: Better Together.

Because lasting change doesn't happen in isolation. It happens when passionate people come together around a shared vision and a shared commitment to improving lives.

And I couldn't be more proud or more excited to collaborate with all of you as we build what comes next.
