Year Four of PHAM: A Turning Point. Let's Keep the Movement going
Four years ago, PHAM began as an idea. A belief. A whisper that prevention deserved a louder voice. That healthcare could feel more connected by breaking down silos. That Canadians deserved tools, education, and agency, not just reacting to illness.
Today, that whisper has become a wave. And this year, our fourth year, has been a true turning point.
From grassroots to grounded momentum, there is something powerful that happens when inspired leaders recognize a BIG, BOLD vision and instead of watching from the sidelines, they roll up their sleeves and breathe belief into it.

Inspired leadership breathing belief into the PHAM movement across the province and country!
This year, PHAM attracted exactly that kind of leadership. Leaders who didn’t just say they believed in prevention. Leaders who embodied it. Leaders who did the work. Leaders who showed up. It is these inspired humans who move movements forward in real, authentic, and impactful ways.
As humans, we are wired for connection. We crave belonging. We need spaces where our voices are heard and where we can learn and grow together.
PHAM has become that space.
A growing PHAMily, inclusive, warm and welcoming. Where healthcare professionals across disciplines lean in, listen, and learn from one another. Allopathic and complementary practitioners better understand each other’s roles and refer with confidence. Everyday Canadians step forward because they want more control over their health. Organizations with valuable resources raise their hands and say, “We want to contribute.”
This year, we have seen tremendous growth, awareness, and support. And it feels different. It feels grounded. It feels aligned. It feels real.

Flag raisings with dignitaries, hosting live events to educate and build community and media appearances to elevate the important message of PHAM and it's micro-movements.
The Flags. Some may downplay the raising of a flag or a municipal proclamation as a photo opportunity. I see something entirely different.
Last year: Not one municipality proclaimed February as Preventative Health Awareness Month. Not one PHAM flag was raised. This year? Seven flags were raised high across seven communities. Seven communities publicly declaring that prevention matters. That empowerment matters. That this inclusive movement is timely, needed, and resonating, especially within vulnerable populations.
These flags are not just fabric. They are symbols. Symbols of solidarity. Of inclusiveness. Of empowerment. Of legacy change. They represent shared healthcare challenges across communities but they also represent something even more powerful. An invitation.
An invitation for each municipality to embrace PHAM in a way that reflects its unique residents, businesses, and local leadership. An invitation to belong. An invitation to build. An invitation to be part of something bigger than ourselves.
Stocking the Toolbox of Canadians this year, PHAM has grown to over 90 healthcare professionals, teams, and organizations who have put up their hands and said: “We want to contribute.
” Together, we are stocking the preventative health toolbox of Canadians. We have created many ways to engage with the PHAM movement and learn from one another.

And our first-of-its-kind PHAM Integrative Health Directory
The PHAM Directory is something I am especially proud of. This directory was created to serve a gap in care.
I recognize the challenge that many of our colleagues in medicine face with a strained system, limited resources and time. Doctors want to do their best to support the health and wellbeing of their patients however they are under time constraints and also may not know who to refer to in their community to support their patient to take an active role in their health to find their trusted integrative healthcare team.
Many directories exist to find a particular type of practitioner, for example you can visit the RMTAO to find a Registered Massage Therapist in your community, or to find a Naturopathic Doctor you can visit The College of Naturopaths of Ontario. However there was not an integrative health directory to help everyday Canadians and healthcare professionals alike to find professionals in their communities that are committed to preventative and integrative health and believe in a better together philosophy of care.
The PHAM Directory was built to bridge this gap and allows you to search not only by type of professional but also type of condition. Because, we know that the best health outcomes come from an integrative approach. Regardless of your health challenge, diagnosis or goal, you need more than one member on your healthcare team to support you and remember that YOU are the MOST important member of that team.
Our vision? To grow this directory across the country into a robust, trusted resource of healthcare professionals, clinics, and businesses who believe in a better together philosophy of care.
One day, I envision family health teams using this directory as a trusted go-to resource, encouraging patients to take ownership, build their customized integrative care team, and recognize that they are the most important member of their healthcare team. That is legacy change.

PHAM has become an umbrella to support and help elevate unique Micro-Movements. A supportive foundation that empowers inspired leaders to launch their own micro-movements within it.
This year, we witnessed powerful growth including: Stronger Through Midlife originating in Ottawa, thanks to the leadership and dedication of Renee Groulx, Tatianna Graham P.T., and their team.
Real Lives Touched by Addiction, led with heart, courage and lived life experience by Jen McCutcheon and her team.
PHAM is not just about education, we are also committed to ACTION and implementation of the tools, tips and strategies that we share to stock the toolbox of Canadians all month long.
If you were unable to attend the Stronger Through Midlife event at Canada's largest tech hub, HUB 350 in Ottawa, check out the digital toolbox here.

These leaders are not waiting for change. They are committed to creating it.
They are stocking toolboxes. Making community connections. Building bridges. Starting waves. And those waves do not stop when February ends.
The intensive educational and awareness PHAM Month comes to a close as the calendar turns to March. But the PHAM Movement? That continues all year long.
The movement is where education turns into action. Where awareness turns into agency. Where inspiration turns into implementation. It is where Canadians take what they learned in February and live it out in March… April… July… November.
It is where we truly Become the CEO of Our Health.
On this first day of March, I am sitting with immense gratitude, hope and even more belief for what we can accomplish together.
I am beyond humbled and honoured to lead this legacy-changing movement alongside each of you. is. This year proved something powerful to me. One person with an idea, with belief, with perseverance and with a willingness to do the work behind the scene, can spark something extraordinary. 🙏
But it is never built alone.
It is built by community. By courage. By collaboration.
This is our turning point. This is our tipping point. Let’s continue to grow this PHAMily.
Let’s continue breaking down silos. Let’s continue raising flags, visible and invisible.
Let’s continue stocking toolboxes. Let’s continue empowering Canadians. together.
The future of healthcare is not something we wait for. It is something we build. And we are building it side by side.
