Luke Loughlin’s story reflects the complex reality of addiction, recovery, and redemption. As a young man, Luke faced sexual abuse and, as a result, he experienced the depths of addiction, making choices and engaging in behaviours that harmed himself, those he loved, and the community around him. But his story did not end there.
Through sobriety, Luke leaned into his tools, deep self-reflection, and a commitment to rebuilding his life. Luke began the long road of recovery and rehabilitation. He has since dedicated himself to service, speaking openly about addiction and mental health, mentoring youth, sharing his lived experience on stages and in community spaces, and creating initiatives such as the Inside Job Project and Recovery Painting to support others on the recovery path.
Luke has worked to make amends, understand the impact addiction has on families, and turn his mess into a message of hope. Today, Luke is serving time in custody for actions that occurred during his addiction more than seven years ago, consequences he has taken responsibility for.
Luke’s experience reflects what many individuals and families across the world are facing. Our intention is to shift the narrative away from judgment, stigma, and dehumanization toward a more compassionate, humanizing understanding, especially for those doing the hard inner work of healing, accountability, and redemption.
During this time, we continue to share his voice through Messages from Luke on our Real Lives Touched by Addiction Podcast and invite our community to participate in Letters to Luke, a way to remind him that his journey, his growth, and his impact still matter. Because healing, accountability, and redemption can exist together.
If Luke’s story has moved you, if you believe in healing, responsibility, and redemption. You can send a message of encouragement. Your words will be forwarded to him.
Because no one heals in isolation. And incarceration does not have to remove someone’s humanity.

The Inside Job Project | A Deeper Meaning
Luke created The Inside Job Project as a recovery program before incarceration. Recovery requires intensive work from the inside out.
Now it carries a new meaning. The work of recovery continues, even inside correctional systems.
We are continuing to support The Inside Job mission and Luke’s advocacy while he serves his time. Because healing does not stop when someone is incarcerated.
In many ways, that’s where some of the deepest work begins.
Recovery Painting | Purpose Driven Leadership
Luke is the founder of Recovery Painting, a purpose-driven initiative that employs individuals in recovery. Having experienced firsthand the challenges of rebuilding a life after addiction, Luke understands how difficult it can be to find meaningful employment in the early stages of sobriety. Recovery Painting was created to offer more than just work; it provides structure, dignity, purpose, and a supportive environment that recognizes the emotional, physical, and mental balance required to sustain recovery.
Luke doesn’t simply speak about recovery; he lives it. Through his actions, mentorship, and leadership, he has embodied the very message he shares: that healing, accountability, and redemption are possible.
Today, more than ever, it is important that Luke knows the impact of the work he has done, not only in his own life, but in the lives of others and within the community. The seeds he has planted through advocacy, service, and lived example continue to ripple far and wide, reminding us that recovery is not only possible but also powerful.
